Superagent Confirms United Have “Deal” To Appoint Former Chelsea Coach Before Amorim

Pini Zahavi revealed that Manchester United have agreed a “deal” to appoint Thomas Tuchel as Erik ten Hag’s replacement.

It was widely known that the Red Devils had spoken to the German in the summer but Zahavi confirmed he turned down the offer:

“If I were Thomas, I would go to Manchester United. He has a chance. Everything is ready, the deal is basically done.”

Zahavi has brokered several important transfers during his time as an agent (including Harry Kane’s move to Bayern Munich) so he is a very reliable source of information.

Why did Tuchel reject United?

The 51-year-old man is believed to have differences of opinion with club officials regarding transfer policy. The Red Devils have changed their recruitment model, with sporting director Dan Ashworth, technical director Jason Wilcox and Chief Executive Omar Berrada coordinating the recruitment.

Tuchel clearly wanted to talk more about the players he brought in so he turned down the opportunity. He was then appointed as England manager until the next World Cup.

Amorim was the first choice when ten Hags were fired

It should be emphasized that the only approach the United manager has taken to follow the decision to sack Erik ten Hag is Ruben Amorim.

Based on the fact that the Portuguese coach refers to United as “Head Coach” and not “Manager”, it is clear that the board is looking for someone who is not interested in having much input on transfers.

Tuchel has had run-ins with clubs before, most notably at Chelsea, so some may feel that things have turned out for the best for the Red Devils.

Of course there is no guarantee that Amorim will be successful at Old Trafford, but his way of working is more in line with the club he joins.
